Liposuction is a surgical body-contouring procedure that removes localized deposits of fat through small incisions using a thin tube called a cannula.
It is intended to improve the contour of specific areas, not to serve as a general weight-loss treatment. Liposuction also does not directly remove loose skin or eliminate cellulite. Skin elasticity, the amount and location of fat, overall health, and realistic expectations all affect whether someone is a suitable candidate.
Results can be long-lasting when body weight remains stable, but remaining fat cells can still enlarge with future weight gain. A consultation is needed to discuss the areas to be treated, expected changes, scars, recovery, and possible risks.
