After sclerotherapy, some patients may notice fine red or pink spider-like veins appearing around the treated area. This common reaction is called “matting.” It occurs when tiny capillaries become more visible due to changes in blood flow after the injection treatment. Matting is not harmful and usually fades on its own within a few months. In most cases, it improves naturally in 3–6 months, but if it persists, additional treatments such as laser therapy or repeat sclerotherapy can help. Wearing compression stockings as instructed, maintaining healthy circulation with exercise, and avoiding prolonged standing can all reduce the chance of matting after varicose vein treatment.
