How to Apply Steri-Strips
Correct Steri-Strip placement across the incision.
- Wash your hands thoroughly.
- Clean and completely dry the skin.
- Gently support the incision.
- Apply each strip perpendicular (90°) to the incision.
- Leave a small gap between strips.
- Do not overstretch the strips.
- Replace only when loose or detached.

Common Mistakes
- Applying parallel to the scar: The strips should cross the incision at a right angle.
- Stretching too tightly: This may cause redness, irritation, or blister formation.
- Replacing too frequently: Frequent removal may damage healing skin.
- Applying on wet skin: Moisture reduces adhesion and may increase skin irritation.
Showering With Steri-Strips
Most patients may shower with Steri-Strips once their surgeon has approved showering.
- Pat the area dry gently.
- A cool hair dryer may help dry the strips completely.
- Avoid rubbing the strips with a towel.
Skin Irritation and Allergic Reactions
Although uncommon, some patients may develop sensitivity to the adhesive used in Steri-Strips.

Using Betadine Over Steri-Strips

Steri-Strips and Scar Management
Scarheal Gold Gel is often used after Steri-Strip therapy is completed.
Why Not Use Scar Gel and Steri-Strips Together?
Scar gels, ointments, moisturizers, and silicone products leave a thin film on the skin surface.
This prevents Steri-Strips from adhering properly and often causes them to detach prematurely.
For this reason, Steri-Strip therapy should usually be completed before beginning scar gel treatment.
