Why Evita Clinic Uses Triclosan-Coated Antimicrobial Sutures
At Evita Clinic, patient safety and the prevention of surgical-site infections are central to every stage of care. Infection risk is influenced by multiple factors, including a patient’s overall health, the type and duration of surgery, sterile technique, tissue handling, appropriate antibiotic use, and postoperative wound care. To help reduce this risk, we follow a comprehensive infection-prevention protocol that includes the careful selection of surgical materials.
Evita Clinic uses triclosan-coated antimicrobial sutures
As one component of our infection-prevention protocol, we use triclosan-coated antimicrobial sutures in selected procedures. WHO guidelines conditionally recommend the use of triclosan-coated sutures to help reduce the risk of surgical-site infections (SSIs). These sutures inhibit bacterial colonization on the suture material but cannot eliminate the risk of infection on their own.
The Antimicrobial Sutures We Use
Evita Clinic uses PLUS Sutures manufactured by Ethicon, a Johnson & Johnson MedTech company. These absorbable sutures are coated with triclosan, an antimicrobial agent that inhibits bacterial colonization on the suture material. They may be used as one component of our surgical-site infection prevention protocol in procedures involving multiple or deeper tissue layers, including:
- Body Lift : Tummy tuck, Brachioplasty, Thighplasty
- Top surgery (FTM/chest masculinization)
- Gynecomastia surgery (male breast reduction)
- Breast augmentation or reduction
In these procedures, absorbable sutures remain within the deeper tissue layers during the early healing period. We select antimicrobial sutures according to the procedure and the surgeon’s clinical judgment as an additional measure to help reduce the risk of surgical-site infection. Their use complements—but does not replace—sterile surgical technique, appropriate antibiotic management, careful tissue handling, and postoperative wound care.
